SEDGE WREN - The Racing Years
Trained by Stuart Edmunds and racing in the colours of the Ben Turner Racing Partnership, Sedge Wren showed plenty of ability from the very beginning of her career.
A daughter of Blue Bresil and Carolina Wren, and half-sister to Marsh Wren, she made her racecourse debut in February 2022 at Huntingdon.
It was an encouraging start.
In a field of fourteen, Sedge Wren finished third, immediately showing the promise that would define the early part of her career.
Just two months later she stepped up considerably in class at Cheltenham.
Sent off at 14/1 in a competitive sixteen-runner Listed bumper, Sedge Wren produced an excellent performance to finish third once again.
Then came hurdles - and two races that showed just how talented she could be.
Making her hurdling debut at Huntingdon in October 2022, Sedge Wren was sent off favourite and overcame some inexperienced jumping to take the lead before two out and draw clear after the last.
Her first victory — by five lengths.
She returned at Southwell in February 2023 carrying a penalty, but the extra weight couldn’t stop her.
Travelling strongly into contention, Sedge Wren took the lead between the final two hurdles and stayed on strongly to record back-to-back victories over hurdles.

Two hurdle victories.
A lengthy absence followed before Sedge Wren returned to action in March 2024, finishing fourth at Chepstow on her handicap debut.
Although her later appearances didn’t quite reproduce those early highs, her record tells the story of a mare with genuine ability — particularly during an exciting period in which she finished in the first three in each of her opening four races.
From placing at Cheltenham to an unbeaten start over hurdles, Sedge Wren gave everyone connected with her some wonderful days on the racecourse.
And alongside her half-sister Marsh Wren, she became part of a particularly special generation of the Carolina Wren family.
